Hmar Students' Association (HSA) on Saturday organised a mega medical camp at Saikot Govt High School in collaboration with Assam Rifles to provide medical aid to internally displaced people who are staying in the school's relief camp.
"As we have been in a civil war for 10 months and the government has not provided any medical facilities, this is an urgent need", said Lalpiengthang, president of Hmar Students' Association.
He also informed that more than 600 IDPs from the relief camp and villagers attended the medical camp.
Meanwhile, a separate press release issued by Assam Rifles stated that the mega medical camp held on Saturday at Saikot village in Churachandpur district in collaboration with Hmar Students' Association aimed to raise awareness among villagers and IDPs about hygiene, sanitation, rapid diagnosis of common lifestyle diseases and contagious diseases, followed by strategies to prevent them.
"In continuation of its (Assam Rifles') compassionate efforts to enhance mutual trust, harmony and peaceful association with the local populace, the medical camp was an endeavour to reach the populace of Saikot and surrounding villages, ensuring a healthy environment and understanding the medical requirements of underprivileged inhabitants of remote villages during the ongoing crisis," the release further said.
During the mega health camp, 15 doctors, including medical officers, dental surgeons, specialists and house surgeons from 36 Assam Rifles and District Hospital Churachandpur, examined and dispensed necessary prescriptions to the patients, the press release added.
