Mortal remains of two individuals who were killed in fierce attack by Kuki militants at Thamnapokpi, Bishnupur have disappeared.
The bodies were however recovered after a hectic search by police at Uchekon Chongabi Mamang Loukon late in the evening today.
The bizarre incident took place at Singjamei Thongkhong Torban Kshetri Leikai, Imphal East district this evening.
Mortal remains of Moirangthem Ropen (44) of Nungoi, Imphal East and Pebam Deban (50) of Thamnapokpi Makha Leikai who were killed in unprovoked attack by Kuki militants at Thamnapokpi were brought to RIMS mortuary.
The mortal remains were later brought to Singjamei Thongkhong where people paid floral tributes and last respect.
Incidentally, two volunteers of Thawai Mirel have been fasting unto death at the same venue.
On learning about the paying of tributes to the two martyrs, Imphal West district police and CAPF arrived there and drove away the gathering by firing several rounds of tear gas shells.
The crowd gathered at the place did run away but they also took away the two bodies.
As Imphal District police could not locate the two bodies, Imphal East district police joined the search for the two 'missing' bodies.
Notably, Thawai Mirel launched a relay hunger strike from August 21, followed by an indefinite hunger strike from yesterday.
Thawai Mirel have been demanding unification of all CSOs and a special Assembly session where resolutions to protect Manipur and end the protracted violence must be adopted.
