Imphal, August 31 2023:
Meetei villagers of Leimakhong have requested the state government to allow them to return to their homes.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, Leimakhong Chingmang Lup advisor Kangjam Gunileima said that the Meitei populace from Leimakhong Chingmang Cooperative, Prem-nagar and Ex-Services Colony have been forced to flee their homes and stay with either their relatives or in relief camps due to the May 3 violence.
Even now, Kuki militants are incessantly attacking the villages and the remaining villagers do not want to tangle with them.
The displaced villagers have been left in a restless state for over three months and their children deprived of their right to education.
Thus, she urged the government to take up steps to allow the villagers to return to their respective homes.
She further said that the Kukis have been moving about in the Meetei areas unimpeded and the central forces deployed in the area put no restriction on them.
However, if the Meeteis want to enter their homes, the central forces prohibit them, and asking them to return after peace is restored.
The central forces are being biased and impartial and as such, the villagers no longer trust them.
Thus, she also appealed to the government to replace the central forces with state forces instead, or deploy the state forces alongside the central forces.
