Imphal, August 31 2023:
Khundrakpam Constituency MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh has asked why the Indian Government is still not taking up any serious action to stop gunfights taking place in the foothills and periphery of the valley till now.
The Congress MLA said this while distributing clothes to the displaced people from Khundrakpam who are taking refuge at the Girl's Hostel of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and the pre-fabricated houses set up at Sajiwa Jail complex.
Speaking to the media after distributing the clothes, Th Lokeshwar said that the claim of peace returning in Manipur is wrong as there is no let-up in gun violence and killing in the State.

He claimed that the Centre is not committed to ending the violence.
Further stating that intrusion of illegal people from Myanmar must be checked to secure the future of Manipur, the Congress MLA continued that the role of civil society organisations (CSOs) is also important to break the cycle of violence and safeguard Manipur.
Th Lokeshwar said that the ruling parties blaming the Congress for disrupting the recent Assembly session which lasted only 11 minutes was very unfortunate.
Saying that the Congress party submitted private member resolutions to protect the State's integrity and restore peace in the State, he added that ruling parties, however, didn't include any agenda to work out a solution to stop the violence and to safeguard the integrity of Manipur in the Business list of the one day Assembly session.
Instead of blaming the Congress, the Government should exercise its authority and convene another Assembly session in a day or two if they sincerely want to stop the violence.
Meanwhile, Th Lokeshwar urged the Government to build a meeting hall at Sajiwa Jail complex for the displaced folks occupying the pre-fabricated houses.
He further appealed to the Government to build pre-fabricated houses at Dolaithabi to provide shelter to the villagers of Makong Dolaithabi Gram Panchayat whose houses have been burnt down by the Kukis.
