Two killed in attack from Kuki militants

Moirang, August 31 2023:
Two Meiteis were killed in Kuki militants' attack at Thamnapokpi under Moirang police station today and heavy exchange of fire ensued for the third consecutive day in the area.
The deceased have been identified as Moirangthem Ropen (44) , s/o Late M Commander of Nungoi, Imphal East and Pebam Devan (54) of Thamnapokpi Makha Leikai.
It is reported that the Kuki militants mostly used explosives in today' attack.
Notably, the fresh round of firefight broke out on August 29 after Kuki terrorists attacked a farmer working at a field on the western side of Naranseina on August 29.

While M Romen succumbed to bullet injuries, P Devan was hit by splinters in today's attack carried out from Kangathei, Churachandpur.
The locals suspect that some Central security personnel might be assisting the Kuki militants in carrying out the gun and bomb attack.
It may be mentioned that one Meitei was killed while 15 others were injured in the series of attacks launched by Kuki militants from Lei-ngang and Nelpaching toward Naranseina and Thamnapokpi in the last two days.
The gunfights had not stopped till the time this report was filed at around 9 pm.
It is reported that Kuki militants fired several rounds towards the western side of Phubala last midnight too.
Unofficial sources claimed that there might be casualties among the Kuki side too.
The Indian Express reported that on August 30, two injured people from the Kuki-Zomi community succumbed to their injuries.
One of them was identified as songwriter LS Mangboi, who was popular locally, especially for a song he had written during the ongoing conflict called 'I gam hilo ham', which translates to 'Isn't this our land?' .
According to Churachandpur police, he was being transported to Aizawl for medical treatment as he was in a critical condition, but succumbed to his injuries en route.
After leaving close to midnight, locals said he died at Songtal, around 100 km from Churachandpur, after which he was brought back to the town.
A doctor at Churachandpur district hospital said that Mangboi had suffered a head injury in an explosion, and since the hospital does not have a neurosurgeon, he had been sent to Mizoram to be transported to Guwahati.
The other deceased has been identified as Richard Hemkholin Guite, who locals say was a village defence volunteer.
He succumbed to his injuries in the Churachandpur district hospital in the morning.
With firing continuing to take place through the day, the body of one more person, identified as Paokam Kipgen, was recovered.
According to locals, the deceased were defence volunteers stationed in the area.
Quoting unofficial sources, The Sangai Express had reported that five Kukis could have been killed in the gun fight.
