Imphal, August 31 2023:
Republican Party of India (Athawale) national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam has stated that he has not said anything wrong regarding Assam Rifles or anyone else, and as such, there is no need for making any clarification.
He also said that legal notice has no basis and accused AR for violating the freedom of speech in a democracy.
The young politician made the statement while visiting and extending financial assistance to Khamenlok gunfight survivor Shanker, currently admitted at AIIMS, Delhi for treatment.
Maheshwar stated that there are evidences and proof with regard to all actions of AR during this conflict.
The AR blockading of Sugnu PS gate, preventing state police from carrying out their duty with regard to the murder of three people in Kwakta and the state police's subsequent filing of FIR against AR is some of the well-known examples.
He continued that he only spoke what was needed to apprise the relevant authorities regarding the above.
However, by sending a legal notice and demanding a clarification from him has raised questions on whether democracy has ceased to exist in this country.
As such, he urged against trying to muffle someone and violating his/her democratic right, while informing that he will provide an equal legal response to the notice.
Appreciating the people of Manipur especially the mothers for extending their support to him, he affirmed to stand for the truth.
