Imphal, August 31 2023:
Informing that changing names of Meetei villages in Moreh is not recent but wrongly entered during the census operation, chief minister N Biren said that instruction has been issued to the officials concerned to rename the said villages to their original ones.
Responding to posers raised by media persons regarding the razing down of Thengra Meetei Leikai in Churachandpur and renaming of Meetei villages in Moreh, the CM said that some elements have been attempting to disintegrate Manipur and impede progress of the state.
Noting that there was an issue of changing the address of Imphal airport to Lamka, he said that as for Moreh, the village names were wrongly entered in the census operation by some groups of people with vested interest and he has already given instructions to the officials concerned to rectify the error.
It is true that some miscreants used bulldozers to level down Thengra Meetei Leikai and they succeeded in levelling some portions but not the entire village, clarified the chief minister, adding that adequate security personnel have been deployed to prevent such activities.
He further informed that the government is taking up steps to control the violence and resolve the crisis so that the displaced people could return to their native villages and resettle there.
The government will help them in reconstructing their houses and ensuring a secure environment.
Initiatives are being taken up to send goodwill missions to both Meeteis and Kukis with support from public leaders, social activists and political leaders, he added.
