Imphal, August 31 2023:
The Lukmai Sellup has accused the Centre of turning a blind eye to the series of atrocities being carried out by Kuki militants against the Meiteis.
Addressing the media at Khwairamband Keithel today, Lukmai Sellup general secretary Asem Nirmala claimed that Central security forces have been giving weapons training to the Kuki militants who have unleashed a reign of terror against the Meiteis since May 3 .
Alleging that the Indian Government is wilfully ignoring the hardship of the Meiteis amid the violent clash, Nirmala claimed that the Centre only wants to exploit the resources of Manipur and doesn't care about the wellbeing of the people.
Nirmala said that the people don't trust the Assam Rifles forces and the same can be seen in the number of protests staged against the paramilitary force.
She further said that the Assembly convened on August 29 was a mockery to the people as it ended without even holding a discussion to end the violence let alone take a resolution to save the State's integrity.
If the elected representatives couldn't save the State and her people then they must resign, she demanded.
The failure is partly of the people too as it is them who elected incompetent leaders in the first place, Nirmala continued and added that people will die of hunger even if not killed in firing if the violence lingers on.
There is no respite from gunfights and killing in Manipur, Nirmala said and asserted that the Prime Minister has turned its back on the people of Manipur when people need him the most.
Saying that the suspicion of people against Assam Rifles will be cleared somewhat if the Centre withdraws 9 AR, 22 AR and 37 AR from Manipur, Nirmala claimed that Kuki militants being backed by security personnel is well known.
The Meiteis believe in peaceful coexistence and don't force any community big or small in Manipur to follow the custom of the ethnic group, Nirmala said and added that Meiteis respect the cultural identity of every community in Manipur.
