Army helps save Meetei houses set ablaze

Armed Kuki miscreants reportedly set fire to three abandoned Meetei houses at Kanto Sabal, located close to the 57 Mountain Division, Leimakhong around 6.30 pm Thursday.
The Indian army personnel deployed at Leimakhong Chingmang, after discovering the fire, launched a rescue operation to put out the flames.
According to a report, the well-armed Kuki militants, descended from the nearby hills and set fire to the Meetei houses.
Mention may be made here that a few days ago, 3 Corps commander Lt Gen HS Sahi, Eastern Commandin7 in-chief Lt Gen RP Kalita and IGAR (South) Maj Gen Rajan Sherawat met to discuss on issues concerning Manipur.
Meanwhile, as per a statement released by 57 Mountain Division regarding Thursday 's incident, the army personnel deployed at Leimakhong Chingmang immediately took up measures to put out the flames and prevent it from spreading to other structures.
The personnel set up a perimeter around the area and used three water browsers to extinguish the flames, before taking the fire under control within five minutes.
A search operation was also launched in the surrounding area and some suspected persons were arrested.
The army was assisted in the operations by the chiefs and residents of nearby villages, the release conveyed.
