A centre of the country's most professional body, Institute of Engineers (India) was opened today in Imphal at a function graced by state Education Minister, L Jayentakumar as chief guest at Hotel Imphal.
Minister, Jayentakumar, speaking on the occasion, while observing that unemployment and poverty are the main problems in the state, to open such a centre is a must to deal with the problems effectively.
State government will provide land for the construction of its building in Imphal, he assured asking the authority concern to submit a draft proposal so that government could look into the allocation of land at a proper place.
President of the institute, Madal Lal who presided over the function and announced the opening of the Imphal centre of institute said that IEI is an engineering institute recognized by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.
It is the biggest professional body of the country.
The institute has over six lakh members and 98 state and local centres across the country.
For the time being the office of the newly open Imphal Centre will be at Government Poly-technique until government provides land, he said.
He further said that there is limitation in enrolment of members in the centre and no regular class will be conducted.
Syllabus will be given to those students who enrolled at the centre.
The institute will conduct exams in two sections (section A and B).
Apart from this, many seminar and other programmes etc., he added.
