Imphal, April 24 2010:
Describing as heinous the incident of killing Ibomcha by some unidentified armed persons who came looking for his sister-in-law and Pradhan of Uyumpok Gram Panchayat Lairenlakpam Ongbi Leirentombi in connection with extortion demand on the night of April 20, United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has called upon all like-minded revolutionary groups for a united stand against such elements.
In a statement, senior publicity secretary of the outfit Ksh Yoiheiba said such heinous crimes could never be expected from genuine revolutionary groups fighting for the cause of the people.
But the unfortunate part is that many armed gangs have sprouted up over the last few years with the sole objective of earning easy money and intimidating the people with firing attack at their houses and lobbing bombs in the hospitals, thereby causing more miseries among the oppressed and subjugated people.
Right from the beginning, with the support and co-operation of the freedom loving people and other like-minded revolutionary groups, UNLF has been trying to eliminate such gangs and the efforts will continue in future as well with a strong conviction that it would ultimately succeed.
But one thing which is of grave concern here is the manner of mushrooming up of armed gangs like the heads of Ravan after being beheaded.
One main reason for this is misuse of such gangs by the security forces to work against the people and tarnish image of the revolutionary movement.
On the other hand, with increasing population and lack of job opportunities, there is no dearth of people who would be ready to do anything for getting some easy money.
So, for the security forces it would not be a difficult task to lure these people with some monetary benefit to work against the revolutionary movement, Yoiheiba said.
Another important point to be noted at such a crucial juncture is the inability of the revolutionary groups to work together for advancing towards their common goal, Yoiheiba said, adding UNLF is convinced that all these anti-people and criminal gangs can be uprooted only when all the genuine revolutionary groups fighting for the same goal work together.
As for UNLF, its hand will always remain extended for collective efforts towards eliminating these gangs, Yoiheiba added.
