A three-day festival of Thang-ta and Indigenous Dance organised by Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) has commenced from today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound.
Inaugurating the festival Sports Minister N Biren in his address as the chief guest conveyed State government's willingness to discuss all outstanding problems besieging the general populace.
Calling upon the festival host to take the initiative for development of thang-ta he also assured that the Government would contribute its mite in promoting the indigenous martial arts form.
Expressing concern that Manipuri society at present is passing through a critical phase as there are many people whose attitude and conduct is centred around violence, the Minister stressed on the need to eradicate such behaviour to facilitate Manipur's advancement.
delivering the keynote address, KIMACS president Sanahal Mangang pledged the organisation's commitment to develop traditional arts and culture of Manipur and sought public cooperation in the endeavour.
speaking at the occasion, KIMACS vice president Jiten meitei Konsamcha desired that the Government create a separate department and allocate budget for development of thang-ta so as to preserve and promote the indigenous martial arts form.
director of JNM Dance Academy Dilip Mayengbam graced the inaugural programme as functional president.
