Shakti Sadan helping pregnant, lactating women

Imphal, June 18 2023:
Social Welfare director N Binobala said that the Shak-ti Sadan Scheme implemented under the department has been providing assistance to pregnant and lactating women, especially those who have been affected by the ethnic violence.
Under this scheme, assistance was provided to a displaced preg-nant woman, who has been stay-ing in a home run by Women's Worth Organisation at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak, from where she delivered baby in a nearby hospi-tal.
The Ipan Thaba ceremony of the baby was held at the Home with support of the department on Sunday.
Director N Binobala, who at-tended the ceremony, said that the department has been providing assistance to women affected by the violence.
She along with de-partment officials and homes run under the scheme visited several relief camps and assessed condi-tions of such women requiring as-sistance.
Consequently, pregnant and breastfeeding women were shifted to safer locations after con-sulting with the DCs concerned.
So far, 84 such women have been shifted to homes run under the scheme.
Of them, seven have delivered babies safely, six are pregnant and 15 have small babies.
At the same time, 17 women have relocated to relatives and 67 are still in different homes, she said.
UNICAM secretary LC Somoren-dro said that his NGO is among the 47, including 28 in the valley area, implementing Shakti Sadan Scheme.
These NGOs have been providing safe shelter to such vul-nerable women, he said while urging women requiring assis-tance to contact mobile number 8132857580.He further said that they have been taking up various initiatives to ensure hygienic set-tlement of these displaced women in the homes.
Manipur State Commission for Women chairperson Ulka Salam, Women Worth Organisation sec-retary Ng Bimolata and repre-sentatives of NGOs under Shakti Sadan scheme were also present at the ceremony.
