Kakching, June 18 2023:
Worried that they might not be able to take up farming this year due to attacks by Kuki militants, villagers of Napat and Tangjeng Ahallup under Kumbi assembly constituency, currently staying in various relief camps, have urged the government to facilitate agricultural activities in the said villages.
Speaking to media persons in one of the relief camps, Yumnam Ojit Meitei of Napat village informed that even if the villagers do not have firearms they are trying to protect the village, which is under the control of Kuki militants.
Ojit recounted that some days back, the villagers apprised Bishnupur district deputy commissioner about the threat from Kuki militants.
Though assurance was given to station two companies of BSF at the village, the same has been translated into action.
He also contended that the government has not provided any help to the affected Napat villagers till now since their displace-ment on May 27 midnight.
On the other hand, one Chirom Birmangol (62) of Tangjeng Ahallup conceded that in-spite of their yearning to return home and prepare for farming the threat perception is preventing them from venturing to their village.
He also urged the government to deploy state's security forces at Tangjeng Ahallup to facilitate their return to home and engage in farming.
