Imphal, June 18 2023:
Protesting Prime Minister's indifferent attitude towards the people of Manipur and failure of Central leadership to end the turmoil in the State, people came out in large number to boycott "Mann Ki Baat" programme at Singjamei Keithel this morning.
While chanting "We don't want to listen to Mann Ki Baat", people protesting the programme aired live on All India Radio, Doordarshan and other Government owned broadcasting platforms, also broke radio sets as a mark of resentment.
Continuing the protest, a large number of people of Singjamei raise slogans such as "We don't want BJP led Govt", "Won't listen to Prime Minister who do not pay heed to people's voices" besides announcing the boycott of Prime Minister's "Mann Ki Baat" programme with immediate effect.
During the protest spearheaded by a local organisation-Thawai Meerel, human chains were formed along stretches of Singjamei Kongba Road and National Highway 102 by blocking the roads at Singjamei Keithel.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, media coordinator of Thawai Meerel Kh Surendrakumar said it is very saddening and unfortunate that the Prime Minister has not uttered a single word in connection with the turmoil which has been besieging the State for 45 days.
Considering his disregard and apathy towards the aggrieved people of Manipur, the move to boycott the programme was taken up, he said.
He also drew the attention of both the State and the Central Government to work out a solution to the prevailing crisis in the State.
Womenfolk who were attending the protest also asked where the leaders, who kept on repeating that India cannot achieve development without North East States, have gone when the State has plunged into such a big communal crisis.
"We do not want to continue with the BJP led Governments in both the State and Centre anymore," they continued.
