Imphal, June 18 2023:
Pledging moral sup-port to the government's initiative to restore peace and harmony in the state, Interfaith Forum for Peace and Harmony (IFPH) has pointed out the need to in-stitute a neutral body com-prising representatives of government, academia, professional peace work-ers and NGOs to assist the Peace Committee in restor-ing normalcy.
IFPH on Saturday sub-mitted a memorandum to Governor Anuisuiya Uikey stressing the need for con-stituting a neutral body and ending the restive situation in the state.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday prior to calling on the Governor, convener Deben Bachaspatimayum conveyed IFPH's moral sup-port to the initiative taken up by the government to restore peace in the state by forming a Peace Com-mittee with members from different communities and individuals working in dif-ferent fields.
However, it would be appropriate to set up a neutral body with members from the academia and NGOs who are well experienced as mediators/ facilitators of peace.
This neutral body will help in confidence building among the parties in conflict when they participate in the peace restoration process of the state government.
He further informed that the neutral body should also have male and female rep-resentatives from among the displaced people taking shelter in relief camps in addition to members from every community.
Deben further stated that the proposed memorandum will press the Governor to take up measures for ending the turmoil as the consti-tutional head and also to control the hate campaign currently circulated on so-cial and conventional media platforms.
The memorandum is ap-pended by representatives of IFPH; Sanamahi Temple Board; All Manipur Chris-tian Organisation; Catholic Church Imphal; Interna-tional Society for Manipuri Gauriya Vaisnavas; ISKCON, Manipur Madrasahs Fed-eration; TRC Phom Assam, Manipur & Nagaland; Brah-makumari Imphal; Manipur Baptist Convention Imphal; Manipur Cultural Integra-tion Council; Divine Life So-ciety Manipur; Seventh Day Adventist; Meitei Christian Church Council and Bhakti Seva Lup/Ekta Parishad and Art of Living.
