Imphal, June 18 2023:
The Manipur Pradesh Con gress Committee (MPCC) has chal-lenged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its government to institute NIA investigation into the claim made by UKLF chairman SS Haokip if the BJP believes that the allegations are baseless and unfounded.
The UKLF chief had alleged in a letter to Union Home minister Amit Shah that his outfit and another Kuki group aided victory of certain BJP candidates in the Manipur assembly elections in 2017.Addressing media persons at Con-gress Bhawan here on Sunday, MPCC spokesperson Kh Debabratta contend-ed that the So0 agreement between armed Kuki militants with state and central governments finalised during the Congress rule, the Sod outfits were never allowed to violate the ground rules and there were never any cases of violence involving So0 cadres.
He further informed that the Con-gress government had ensured that no So0 outfits were involved in the anti-ILP agitation that broke out in Churachandpur.
Moreover, the party never approached for help from the militant outfits under SoO to win elections in the state.
How-ever, the letter of the UKLF chief SS Haokip addressed to the Union Home minister Amit Shah in 2019 claiming that the outfit helped BJP win the Manipur state assembly elections in 2017 clearly indicated that there is an understanding between the Kuki militants and BD.
The party not taking up any action against UKLF over the claim also deepens suspicion about unholy nexus between the two entities, he opined.
Debabratta also enquired as to why Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been mentioned in the UKLF letter addressed to Amit Shah, did not disclosed anything about the meeting he had with Kuki militants in Assam a week after his visit to Imphal.
