Imphal, June 18 2023:
Manipur People's Dem-ocratic Front (MPDF) has sug-gested that the government of India seek the help of United Nations Organisation (UNO), if it, despite being involved in the superpower race of the world, is unable to fend off the Kuki militants.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club on Sun-day, MPDF secretary Sapam Shamungou remarked that the government has been unable to control the violence, which has been raging on for over 46 days since May 3 in the small state, having an area of only 22,327 sq km.
Despite having the power and means to curb the vio-lence, the central government is continuing to watch the Kuki militants gun down civilians, burn homes and injure many.
As such, one can only wonder what internal or foreign poli-cy the government is playing at.
Thus, if the government is unable to take care of this violence, it would be best to seek the help of UNO for re-storing peace and normalcy in the state, he stated.
According to MPDF working president N Mahendra, main-taining peace and protecting integrity of Manipur is non-ne-gotiable.
In a democracy, peo-ple have the right to agitate for their demand, as provided by the Constitution.
However, what the Kuki militants are doing is against the Consti-tution but rather challenging the Constitution of a country.
It is impossible to prevent re-currence of similar violence in the future, he remarked and stressed the need for enrolling all students in NCC or defence training courses.
