BAP reconstructs hanging bridge at Thangkin village

Kakching, October 22 2023: Considering the apathy of the government despite the urgent requirement for connectivity, Bujuur Aanchung Puh (BAP), an apex body of Moyon Naga tribe, has taken up the task of reconstructing a hanging bridge over Chakpi river at Thangkin village.

As per a release, the bridge was blessed by St Peter's Parish, Monsang Pantha parish priest reverend father Michael Kochuparambil and dedicated to the villagers on October 20 .

The hanging bridge which was swept away during the infamous 2015 flash floods in Chandel was left unrestored for more than eight years in spite of repeated appraisals to successive competent authorities all these years.

Located only about 6 km from the district headquarters, the bridge serves as one of the primary lifelines of Thangkin village and surrounding Sulam area villages, it added.

BAP also mentioned that since the flash floods, the ordinary villagers particularly elderly, students, women and children have been enduring enormous difficulties in commuting to Chandel for livelihood and other activities during the monsoon season.

Understanding the plight of the helpless villagers, BAP initiated the reconstruction of the hanging bridge with the support of Thangkin village and generous donations from within the Moyon community, it conveyed.

BAP further thanked all the donors for their unflinching support and help in easing the lives of ordinary villagers.
