Festival of performing arts commences

The two-day 30th Guru Kirtana cum Ariba Pala and Manoharsai festival organised by Gulapi Nata Sankirtana Academy began at the Academy's Kwakeithel Nganapi Thong premises here, on Friday.
Speaking as chief guest of the event which began with offering of floral tributes to deceased teachers, JN Manipur Dance Academy director P Bilash appreciated teacher Lakpati for his devotion and dedication to the deceased teachers.
He continued that Nata Sankirtan contains six important components namely, decorum, cleanliness, good health, improving the econ omy, preservation of the art form and promotion of the art form globally.
The decorum component not only teaches one to be respectful of the teachers and other people, but also help in achieving success in life.
The art form also assists in maintaining good health, comparable to that of sportspersons, while also helping to improve the economy of families and state, he said and urged all to help in propagation of the art form as everyone has a responsibility in this regard.
Presided over by theatre and cultural activist L Brajamohan, the inaugural function was attended by JNMDA ex-pradhan guru Saiigeet Natak awardee Arambam Tombinou Devi as guest of honour.
As part of the function, a performance of Ariba Lei-bakchaba Pala was presented.
