ANSAM suspends stir

All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has suspended its agitation of picketing government offices, from Friday, following an agreement with the state government.
Informing about the development on Friday, ANSAM general secretary Angteshang Maring said that the leaders of the Naga student body and the representatives of state government had a meeting on Thursday evening.
The meeting was followed by signing a memorandum of agreement' between the two.
ANSAM initiated the "picketing of government offices" in the hill districts under its jurisdiction on October 24 as the first step of agitation.
They were demanding immediate lifting of the order for internet shutdown and restoration of internet connectivity in the peaceful areas of the state.
They also sought the declaration of results of the interviews conducted in September 2021 for appointment of 190 posts of assistant professors (145 regular and 45 for the Scheduled Tribe Special Drive) for government colleges as soon as possible.
During the meeting held at the CM's secretariat, an agreement was reached, according to which the government assured to restore the internet connectivity in the state within five days (or three working days), subject to an assessment of the law-and-order situation.
Additionally, the government committed to declare the results for the 190 posts of assistant professors to be engaged on contractual basis for one academic session on or before November 2 .
The memorandum of agreement' further elucidated that the Naga student body would resume its agitation if the government fails to implement the agreement.
