ANSAM suspends stir against internet ban

The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has suspended its agitation of picketing Government offices from today following an agreement with the State Government.
Informing this fresh development to Newmai News Network today, ANSAM general secretary Angteshang Maring said that the leaders of the Naga student body and representatives of the State Government held a meeting on Thursday night where a 'memorandum of agreement' was signed between ANSAM and the State Government.
The 'memorandum of agreement said, "Emergency meeting of the Government representatives and the ANSAM was held at the Chief Minister's bungalow in the presence of the Chief Minister, the Education Minister and the Chief Secretary on October 26, 2023, to discuss the matter of internet shutdown in the State and declaration of result for recruitment of 190 (145+45 ST special drive) posts of Assistant Professors to be engaged on contract for one academic session" .
An agreement was made with an assurance by the Government to "restore internet connectivity in the State within five days (in three working days) subject to assessment of law and order condition", and also to "declare the result of 190 posts of Assistant Professors to be engaged on contract for one academic session on or before November 2, 2023" .
The ANSAM had launched "picketing of Government offices" in the hill districts of Manipur under its jurisdiction from October 24 as the first step of agitation demanding immediate lifting of the internet shutdown "in the peaceful area of the State", and also to declare the result of the interview held in the month of September, 2021 for appointment of 190 posts of Assistant Professors for Government colleges of Manipur at the earliest.
The Naga student body said that it will resume its agitation in the event of the failure to implement the memorandum of agreement.
