Imphal, January 17 2024:
Expressing serious concern over the persistent attacks on state security forces by Kuki militants in Moreh by using bombs leading to death and injury of several personnel; actor and social worker RK Somendro (Kaiku) has questioned the reason behind the Central government's silence despite the increasing threat posed by armed Kuki militants in the internal security affairs of the country.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, RK Somendro said that state security forces in Moreh have become soft target for the armed Kuki militants.
In the latest attack, two CDO personnel were killed and many injured in RPG and sniper attacks.
Shockingly the central security forces deployed in the border town are doing nothing, he alleged, while criticising the central forces for showing its might only in the valley and doing nothing in the hills.
Even on Wednesday, Casspir vehicles of Assam Rifles were seen retreating on mere threat from Kuki militants, he said.
Recalling how the CO of 5 Assam Rifles posted in Moreh spoke of AR prepared to retaliate in case of further attacks on the security personnel, he questioned the reason behind the inaction of central forces deployed in the border town.
He also expressed suspicion if there is a secret agenda of the Central government behind giving free hands to the Kuki militants and allowing the violence to continue.
He then urged the state government to take up appropriate steps to control the situation from going out of hand.
