Imphal, January 17 2024:
The Koireng led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has clarified that the outfit was not involved in any of the loot cases which took place in the valley districts amid the ongoing conflict in the State.
In a statement signed by the secretary of publicity of the central committee M Shak-Hen, the outfit continued that they have nothing to do with the loot case of January 15 where three Meitei Pangals from Kwakta were robbed of Rs 11 lakh and one KIA car near Thinungei Oil Pump nor with the case of January 13 where gold ornaments worth around Rs 20 lakh were looted from four persons who run a jewellery store at Wahengbam Leikai by armed miscreants at Canchipur areas.
It further said that they were not involved in any of the cases of looting and threatening civilians by armed miscreants reported amid the conflict while condemning the incidents.
Saying that Manipur has been witnessing a big threat to its identity since May 3 due to the aggression of armed Kukis against the Meiteis, the outfit claimed that these armed Kukis who have been attacking Meiteis and burning/destroying their properties are the agents of India.
Continuing that many Meitei civilians are being compelled to take up arms and put their lives at risk to safeguard Manipur, the outfit maintained that many Meitei village guards have been killed while several others got injured while protecting their villages from the onslaught of Kukis.
Unfortunately, some armed people have been engaging in dacoity by taking advantage of the difficult situation in Manipur, the outfit pointed out and added that the deeds of these armed looters has projected the movement of Meiteis to protect the unity and integrity of Manipur in a bad light.
The outfit went on to claim that armed groups which have the backing of the Government have been collecting money from the people forcefully, intimidating civilians and kidnapping people in the valley districts.
"Whatever the 'Colonial Government' has been doing is to suppress the Manipuris," the outfit claimed and appealed to every Manipur to condemn all kinds of immoral activities and the discreet agenda of the "Colonial Government." It further appealed to all to join hands and take collective responsibility in disciplining the immoral people who intimidate people and engage in dacoity.
