Imphal, January 17 2024:
Apart from clarifying that it has no connection, whatsoever, with the twin incidents of abduction-cum-robbery on January 13 and 15, the Koireng-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has strongly condemned threat, intimidation and abduction of civilians.
According to a statement issued by the Koireng-led UNLF, the outfit has no connection with the said incident that happened around 7.30pm on January 15 in Bishnupur area in which three Meitei-Pangal residents of Kwakta, namely, Kh Amir Khan, Dolaipabam Sakir Ahmed and Abdul Satar were abducted while returning home, looted Rs 11 lakh in cash and drove away with the car in which the three were travelling.
The UNLF statement issued by its publicity secretary M Shak-hen also clarified that the outfit has no connection whatsoever with the abduction of jeweller Naorem Krishnadas and his two brothers on January 13 .
The armed masked abductors not only looted gold worth around Rs 20 lakh (25 Tula) from the brothers but also shot at and injured Krishnadas, the statement recalled, while further clarifying that the outfit has no connection whatsoever with the extortion/ looting, threat and intimidation incidents happening in Manipur since the past few months.
The UNLF also reminded the people that armed Kukis trapped in India's hidden policy and have become India's agents have been intentionally targeting and attacking the Meetei community since May 3, 2023 thereby posing threat to unity and integrity of Manipur, which has been in existence for thousands of years.
Thousands of civilians have taken up arms and risking their lives while fighting the attackers and many brave village volunteers have lost their lives apart from leaving many of them handicapped for life.
Amidst the crucial and difficult times, some people are taking advantage of the situation and turning towards innocent civilians to amass personal wealth through various means like abduction, extortion and looting.
Such acts of the armed gangs have wrongly portrayed the ongoing genuine war for protecting unity and integrity of Manipur to the global people, the statement said.
