Imphal, January 17 2024:
Contending that security has collapsed in all aspects in Manipur, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has urged Security Advisor and Chairman of the Unified Command Kuldiep Singh to step down on moral ground.
Speaking to the media at Lamphelpat today, COCOMI convenor Jitendra Ningomba demanded that Kuldiep Singh needs to resign as he has failed to tackle the crisis in Manipur and hand over the charge of the Unified Command to a person who is more familiar with the ground situation.
Reminding that the GOC of Eastern Command during a recent meeting with civil society organisations had assured that Central forces will retaliate if the Kuki militants don't stop their aggression, Jitendra asked why the Central forces are still silent when Kuki militants have intensified their violent campaign.
The Kuki militants are even using RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) in attacking State forces at Moreh, he said while accusing the Centre and State Government of silently watching the unfolding situation at Moreh.
It is an all-out war of Kukis, Jitendra said, referring to the hostile atmosphere at Moreh.
Claiming that armed people from Myanmar who don't understand Manipuri language are also involved in attacking State forces at Moreh, Jitendra appealed to the State commandos who have been fighting to protect Manipur at Moreh to not lose heart.
"COCOMI and people of Manipur are with you," he said in a message to the State force deployed at Moreh.
Whatever the State forces and the civilians have been striving is to end the conflict and bring peace amid the violent campaign of those who want to disintegrate the State, Jitendra continued.
Four Meiteis who went to collect firewood were killed at Haotak recently while another police personnel laid down his life at Moreh today, Jitendra said and condoled the demise of commando personnel W Somorjit Singh , a resident of Malom, at Moreh today.
The COCOMI leader urged the Centre and the State Government to make public their stand on the Manipur crisis.
Further stating that Kuki organisations ITLF, CoTU and Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) demanding release of two persons who were arrested in connection with the assassination of former Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anandkumar with a threatening statement is a testament of them being anti-Nationals, Jitendra urged the Government to ban ITLF, CoTU and KIM at the earliest.
