Kuki militants continue to attack farmers

Moirang, January 17 2024:
Kuki militants attacked a group of farmers who were working at a paddy field on the western side of Irengbam under Oinam Constituency today at around 3 pm.
Reportedly, the attack was carried out by Kuki militants who came from Tingkhai Khunou in Kangpokpi district using sophisticated weapons.
It is said that the Central force (SSB) deployed in the area didn't do anything when the Kuki militants attacked the farmers and they shot some rounds only after the people from the locality mounted strong pressure on them.
After the exchange of fire, a team of State force rushed to the area and carried out a search operation at Tingkhai Khunou till upto about 5 pm but no one was arrested.
Speaking to the media, one of the farmers claimed that the Central force posted in the area didn't retaliate when the Kuki militants attacked them nor allowed the village volunteers to engage in a firefight.
In another instance, Kuki militants rained bullets from multiple sides toward the western side of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou for about 30 minutes.
It is reported that the Kuki militants fired about 100 rounds from the direction of Haotak, Chingfei, Laimanai and Sadu Maning Thambou Pam at around 5.45 pm.
Speaking to the media , the locals claimed that Kuki militants announced in a radio set that they will mix poisonous chemicals to the reservoir of a water supply located on the western side of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou and kill the Meiteis in the area.
Claiming that the Kuki militants even dared them to come at the site and prevent contamination of the water supply, the locals continued that a gunfight ensued while the village volunteers were heading toward the water supply plant.
They said that Central forces are posted near the sites from which the Kuki militants launched the attack.
There is no report of any injury as of now.
Reportedly, the Kuki militants stopped firing after the personnel of Sikh Regiment came out in their Casspir and sounded a siren.
Tight security measures have been taken up by Bishnupur police too.
