Former CM O Ibobi, others call on Governor on Moreh incident

Imphal, January 17 2024:
Former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh along with Gaikhangam, MPCC president K Meghachandra, MLA T Ranjit and MLA Th Lokeshwar called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan today and highlighted the damage to public properties and loss of innocent lives since the outbreak of ethnic violence in May last year and the violence in Moreh today.
They conveyed to the Governor that the public in Thoubal areas have announced to march towards Moreh if additional State forces are not deployed.
The team urged for immediate intervention of the Governor to control the situation.
Governor Anusuiya Uikey heard their grievances and said that she was informed of the stringent security arrangements that have been put in place, and more Central security forces will be sent to Moreh by tomorrow morning.
She appealed to the visiting team to co-operate and support every step taken up to restore peace and normalcy in the State.
A seven member team of Shiv Sena Manipur Unit led by its president, M Tombi also called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan today and urged her to give the charge of the Unified Command to the State Government.
The team further requested the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to Manipur and to bring about an amicable solution between the communities in conflict, said PRO Raj Bhavan in a statement.
During the meeting, the Governor stated her empathy towards the concerns and problems being faced by the people due to the unrest and suggested concerted efforts to restore peace and normalcy soon.
In a separate meeting, representatives of Ima Market and Imagi Meira called on the Governor at the Raj Bhavan this evening and informed her about the tense situation in Moreh, where security personnel have been killed.
They urged the Government to give the charge of Unified Command to the Chief Minister and also requested her to send additional State forces to the border town to subside the aggravated situation.
K Tomasu, Manager, Malom Oil Depot, Malom Tulihal, Imphal also called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey and briefed her on their unwavering efforts to ensure uninterrupted petroleum supplies for the people.
They informed her that beyond oil, they are committed towards social responsibilities in sanitation, environment, sustainability, disaster management, drinking water and rural development.
The Governor commended their services and extended New Year's greetings from her office.
