LIMIT for setting up of rehab centre for transgender

Concerned over the problems being faced by transgender in the state who use drugs, Lamyanba Irawat Memorial Integrated Trust (LIMIT) Manipur has urged authority concerned to establish a drug treatment centre exclusively for the transgender.
In a release, LIMIT publicity secretary Chetan Yengkhom lauded the initiative taken up by the government to facilitate treatment of drug user community and pointed out that since there is no drug treatment/re-habilitation centres for the transgender, the community has been facing problems in accessing relevant services.
Recalling an incident where a transgender found in a semi-conscious state in North AOC area was provided first aid by volunteers of LIMIT on Tuesday, Chetan said that the organisation came across serious problems while trying to find a facility for housing transgender drug users.
The said transgender was finally admitted to Anouba Mangal Trust Centre, Khuman Lampak, which is being run by the Social Welfare Department with the help of Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO).
The release also conveyed gratitude to SASO and social welfare department director for the support in rehabilitating the transgender, and urged the department to take up initiative of setting up a drug rehabilitation centre exclusively for the transgender community.
