Imphal, January 17 2024:
The Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) has called upon the Manipur Police to conduct swift investigation into the two individuals arrested in connection with the killing of Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anand and submit the chargesheet at the concerned Court at the earliest.
A statement issued by Chingthang Nambam, publicity secretary, UAL, has lauded the Special CDO of Manipur Police for successfully carrying out operations to nab Philip Khaikholal Khongsai and Hemkholal Mate who are the main accused in the killing of the Moreh SDPO on October 31, 2023 .
UAL asserted that justice should be delivered and the perpetrators involved in the crime should be awarded stringent punishment under the law.
It further advised against handing over the case to the CBI while reasoning that CBI cannot guarantee justice while highlighting the availability of many capable police officers in the State force.
On another note, UAL decried CoTU and ITLF's demand seeking unconditional release of the two arrestees within 48 hours.
UAL opined that such statements by the two Kuki organisations is a direct endorsement of the two main accused in the killing of the Moreh SDPO and added that CoTU and ITLF should also face legal ramifications for such blatant endorsement.
Manipur will become a lawless State if the two accused are released owing to building pressure from the Kuki-Zo community, UAL stated.
Thus, UAL urged the investigating authority of the Manipur Police to wrap up the investigation swiftly and submit the chargesheet at the concerned Court.
In order to restore the faith of the people in the State Government, UAL urged the relevant authority to show the public that all law breakers will receive their due punishment without fail through the case of Moreh SDPO Anand Chingtham.
