Imphal, February 02 2024:
Terming the interim Union budget-2024-25 as an 'election gimmick' to woo voters ahead of the Lok Sabha election likely to be held in April this year, CPI Manipur State Council said the party is totally against the interim budget.
In a statement, the CPI state unit condemned the interim Union budget claiming that it did not reflect anything about Manipur even though the state has been facing a serious crisis and people are suffering due to persistent attacks by Kuki militants.
As the interim Union budget failed to provide special economic package to Manipur, the matter will be raised at the CPI national executive meet which got underway in Hyderabad from Friday, it said.
While contending that the interim Union budget was prepared only for the rich, the CPI statement said that the interim budget proposes slashing taxes from the rich as well as upper and middle class sections, and reducing wages for the working class section of the society.
Due to stoppage of funding in different sectors and curbing of subsidy, suffering of the poorer sections of the society will increase, the CPI statement said, adding that poor farmers would face more problem and their crop yield would reduce as fertilizer subsidy worth Rs 52,445 crore
has been cut.
