Water tanker for state forces in Moreh hijacked

Consequent to the earlier threat served to shop owners in Moreh town against supplying goods, including water to state security forces in the town and asking them to shut their shops indefinitely, suspected Kuki militants hijacked a private tanker engaged for supplying water to state forces deployed in the border town on Thursday around 11 am.
The private water tanker had been supplying water to the new posts of state forces located near Kondong Lairembi shrine and ADC office com plex.
The security posts were shifted to the present location on security ground following a series of fierce attacks carried out by Kuki militants from January this year.
The tanker was hijacked from near the bypass road by Kuki militants and taken towards Haolenphai village.
The driver, who is a Muslim, was released there.
Upon receiving information, personnel of 5 Assam Rifles and other central forces launched a search operation to recover the hijacked tanker.
However, they are yet to find the tanker till the time of filing this report.
In connection with the incident, 26 Sector AR commander Brigadier Vedpal Yadav had a meeting with community leaders of Moreh at the Key Location Post of Assam Rifles on Friday afternoon.
Leaders of Tamil Sangam Moreh, Gorkha Samaj Samiti Moreh, Manipur Muslim Council Moreh, Border Trade Chamber of Commerce Moreh also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Brigadier Vedpal Yadav strongly denounced the threat notice issued by Village Volunteers, Tengnoupal District Eastern Zone to shop owners and individuals in the border town against supplying goods and water to state security forces while asking them to shut down their shops indefinitely.
He also urged the community leaders to denounce such acts.
However, the community leaders only told the Brigadier that they would discuss the matter and inform about their
opinion later on.
