Awareness programme on MGNREGA held

In a bid to generate awareness about the objective and mode of implementation of MGNREGA activities in the Panchayats, a 1-day awareness & education programme on MGNREGA was held at the Panchayat Ghar, Hiyangthang yesterday.
It was attended by Golmei Roy Kabui, ex-Pradhan; Yumnam Laksman Singh, Ombudsman, Imphal West District; 10 Ward members of Hiyangthang GP; Panchayat Secretary, K Beauty Rongmei along with 65 Job Card Holders, said a release.
Ruhinikumar Singh and Salam Gourakishwor Singh, Ombudsman, Bishnupur District also took part in the programme as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Ruhinikumar Singh highlighted the basic aim, objectives and mode of implementation of the MGNREGS in rural areas.
He also deliberated on the need for development of durable community assets, watershed management, creating infrastructure for livestock, promotion of horticulture, etc under MGNREGS.
He advised the Job Card holders to keep the Job Cards in their custody and link their Bank Pass Book with Aadhar Cards.
Yumnam Laksman Singh pointed out that very few people know about Ombudsman and its office in the districts.
"Ombudsman is basically a representative of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
The Ombudsman will look after the complaints, if any, submitted by the Job Card holders and will try to redress and dispose of the grievances relating to the implementation of the scheme in the district", he added.
Yumnam Laksman Singh further explained about the procedure for redressing the grievances to the Ombudsman.
Later, an open interaction session was also conducted wherein doubts raised by the participants were cleared.
