Chandel CSOs condemn assault on Dk Korungthang Maring

Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO), Naga Womens' Union Chandel (NWUC) and Naga Students' Union Chandel (NSUC) have strongly condemned the alleged physical assault on Dk Korungthang Maring on January 30 by paramilitary personnel stationed at 3rd Assam Rifles Tengnoupal.
In a condemnation note issued by the Information and Publicity Cell CNPO, the above three civil society organizations of Chandel expressed shock over the alleged outrageous and inhumane acts by the paramilitary personnel who should be protecting the civilians and ushering peace in the region.
CNPO on behalf of all the tribe organizations, women unions and student bodies condemned the act and termed it as an act of terrorizing innocent civilians.
'Such inhumane and barbaric acts shall be viewed as an act/attempt of aggression upon the Naga community', said the note.
It further informed that Dk Korungthang Maring s/o Dk Konai of Khukarthil village is undergoing intensive medical treatment at JNIMS and is in a critical condition due to the third degree torture inflicted upon him by the paramilitary personnel.
The unfortunate incident happened when Dk Korungthang Maring and his associate Ds Moran were travelling to N Satang village in Tengnoupal district.
At the junction of Sansak road, the duo were detained by the paramilitary personnel and assaulted badly, it claimed.
The paramilitary personnel also allegedly seized a cash amount Rs 4 lakhs and a gypsy driven by Dk Korungthang, added the note.
