Jiribam-Khongsang train service to resume soon

Jiribam-Khongsang train service, which remained suspended since May 4, 2023, is likely to resume soon as could be comprehended from final inspection of the railway track conducted on Friday.
Accompanied by other officials, Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety (CCRS) Janak Kumar Garg conducted the final inspection from Jiribam to Khongsang railway station from 9.30 am on Friday.
The inspection team, after a brief stop at Jiribam railway station, proceeded towards Vangaichungpao on their way to Khongsang for the final check of the railway lines.
The Jiribam-Khongsang train service is expected to resume from February 7, a source informed.
Initially, the Agartala-Khongsang Jan Shatabdi Express was the sole direct train connecting Vangaichungpao and Khongsang passing through Jiribam railway station.
However, reports suggest that two additional trains will be introduced connecting Khong-sang to Delhi and Khongsang to southern India.
The Jiribam to Khongsang train service spans approximately 54km thereby significantly reducing the travel time to just one hour, compared to the lengthy hours in case of road trip.
Commuters eagerly await the resumption of this vital rail link anticipating improved connectivity and convenience.
Meanwhile, our Noney correspondent informed that speed trial run for resuming the train service in between Khongsang and Agartala as well as to other parts of county was conducted on Friday by a team of Railway Safety.
The 14-bogey train arrived Friday afternoon at Khongsang railway station in Noney district where the station manager Sinreap Gangmei welcomed and received them.
Ministry of Railways is arranging a special train for pilgrimages to reach Ayodhya, UP on February 7.It may be mentioned that the service of Jan Shatabdi Express that runs between Agartala and Khongsang was halted since the early part of May, 2023 due to ethnic clashes in Manipur.
