Imphal, February 02 2024:
The last rites of the two village volunteers who were killed in fatal attack of Kuki militants at Koutruk on January 30 were held today at Kadangband Mahadev Hill.
A large number of people took part in the funeral and paid their respect to the martyrs-Nongthombam Michael (33), s/o Imo of Wangkhei Thangapat and Meisnam Khaba @ Ibomcha (23) of Sagoltongba Mamang Leikai.
The mortal remains were collected by family members and a score of people from RIMS mortuary in the morning and taken to their respective homes first.
It may be mentioned that the two JACs formed in connection with the Koutruk incident decided to claim the bodies of Michael and Khaba after the Government assured them to fulfil the charter of demands they have raised.
At their homes, family members and several others offered floral tributes to the martyrs, following which the mortal remains were taken to Kadangband with a procession for the last rites.
Many people who couldn't attend the funeral came out at different places along the course of the procession and paid their obeisance to the two bravehearts.
State police took up heavy security measures at the burial site and several other places along the route to prevent things from going out of hand.
