Housing projects targeted for inauguration by mid-August

Department of Information & Public Relations on Sunday conducted a media inspection visit to various sites where pre-fabricated shelter houses are being constructed in the different parts of valley districts.
The housing projects are being implemented at 44-Yaithibi Khunou/Loukol for Thoubal district, Sajiwa for Imphal East district and Kwakta for Bishnupur district with similar temporary shelter houses also constructed or under process in the hill districts.
Responding to media persons' queries, Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited superintending engineer P Brojendro Singh informed that around 3000 houses will be constructed in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts with each facility aimed to accommodate around 200 families displaced by the communal conflict.
While stating that construction of room for a displaced family cost Rs 4.99 lakh, he continued that construction of the fabricated houses is expected to be finished by mid of August.
The project being implemented by the corporation started on July 4 at Yaithibi Loukol and June 26 near Sajiwa jail and has completed by more than 30 per cent.
The project will be completed within the stipulated time if there are no hindrances, he assured.
The engineering officer also said that there will be 10 families in each block with a common kitchen and dining hall for every five blocks.
Toilet will be attached to each room and water supplied through pipes while for drinking purpose, plastic water tanks will be installed.
For domestic use of water, ponds will be dug at each site.
Regarding the supply of electricity, a transformer will be installed at each site, he continued.
For Kwakta eight blocks will be constructed for 80 families and the families will be accommodated by reconstructing the existing building of sericulture office, Brojendro added.
