Imphal, July 24 2023:
Maintaining that the majority of Meiteis living in Mizoram are from Assam and that the 'advisory' issued to them to leave Mizoram has not gone down well with the Assam Meiteis, All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) has appealed to the Mizos settling in Barak Valley of Assam to leave the place for their safety.
This development is being seen as a 'retaliation' to the evacuation of people belonging to the Meitei community from Mizoram to Manipur.
"As most of the Meiteis living in Mizoram happens to be from Assam, the unruly behaviour of Mizoram has already escalated anger among the Meiteis of Assam, therefore for their own safety we advise Mizos living in the Meitei areas of Barak Valley to vacate the area at the earliest time possible," the AAMSU said.
It added: "At this crucial juncture of the Manipur turmoil we stand in solidarity of our Meitei kins in Manipur who are being attacked by war monger Kuki Zo tribes.
The Meiteis in Assam would extend any possible and necessary support to our kins" .
In a statement, AAMSU general secretary Ashang-bam Swapana said that the Mizoram government is playing a double game by giving a free hand in all anti-Manipur activities being carried out in the state on one hand and acting as Meitei loving state on the other hand.
Sucn double game should be stopped.
The secretary further informed that a consequence of the Peace Accord MNF Returnees Association (PAMRA) serving a notice/warning Meiteis settling in Mizoram have started leaving in large numbers.
Even before the declaration of war by the narco-terrorists against the Meitei community on May 3 last, the MZP had issued a threat notice on April 30 following which the Mizoram government and the elite groups of the state had been promoting violent activities which is very unfortunate, it said.
The fact that Mizoram government is against the Meitei community is clear from cases of security forces recovering huge cache of arms and ammunition in Mizoram purportedly for use by Kuki militants in Manipur and statements issued from different quarters against the Meitei community, the release maintained.
Evacuation of Meiteis from Mizoram to Manipur began on July 22 after PAMRA, a former insurgent outfit from Mizoram asked the Meitei populace in the state to leave for Manipur amid security concerns.
A decision to airlift Meiteis from Mizoram was taken by the Manipur government following threat against Meiteis rose after a video of two Kuki women being paraded naked by a mob of Meitei men went viral recently.
