Imphal, April 07 2024:
Imagi Meira convenor T Sujata has questioned the behaviour of 'mothers' of Manipur, seemingly forgetting the prevailing conflict and queuing up in huge numbers at the Chief Minister 's gate as if they are on a pilgrimage to Baruni hills.
In a press meet held at the Thangjing hall of Manipur Press Club here Sunday, Sujata recounted of the group's demand that the government take strict action against the ten Kuki MLAs who betrayed the state, calling on the chairman of Privilege and Ethics Committee and the speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly to make their stand clear on the matter.
However, they (chairman and speaker) again sought more time, which went on for 11 months, leaving the conflict unresolved.
Urging all mothers' associations not to remain idle as the conflict has not subsided, she also called for a united movement in this regard.
Sujata then questioned the mass "pilgrimage-like" gatherings by womenfolk in front of the CM's gate when the people cannot move or travel out of the valley districts and suggested all ponder seriously over the evolving situation.
"Even if we cannot halt the elections, the mothers have the power to teach a befitting lesson to the government and abstain from trying to take advantage or impress the political parties with arrival of elections.
It is us who went to seek donations for the cause from door-to-door during the conflict.
It is now the best time for the people to teach a lesson to both the central and state governments.
If we do not understand the current situation properly, the future of our children would become unpredictable.
Our survival is at risk and as such, all need to wake up, " she exhorted all concerned.
