Imphal, April 07 2024:
Forgetting the suffering people have endured in the last 11 months, people are lining up in large numbers in front of Chief Minister's residential gate, said Imagi Meira comparing the "long queues to Baruni pilgrimage" .
At Manipur Press Club, Imagi Meira convenor Th Sujata said due to election fever, many of the womenfolk seem to have forgotten all the suffering they have endured in the last 11 months.
The conflict is not yet over and the crisis has not been resolved.
"Meiteis are unable to move beyond the valley and many displaced people have not been allowed to return to their homes.
"Under such conditions, womenfolk are lining up in long queues like Baruni pilgrimage in front of the Chief Minister's residential gate.
What for?" Sujata asked.
Sujata said elections are a time when people are given the opportunity to teach a lesson to the Government.
"No person shall take money for vote.
Please remember we had gone door to door seeking donations to face and overcome our suffering during the peak of violence.
No one shall take any money from any political parties for votes.
"The time is ripe for people to teach a lesson to the Government of India and the Manipur Government," she said.
Sujata further informed that the Imagi Meira has approached Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker and Ethics Committee Chairman seeking action against 10 Kuki MLAs.
The elected leaders, however, have sought more time, she added.
