Lightning strike kills three, sears six pigs

Lightning strike killed three pigs and inflicted burn injuries on six others in a piggery farm located at Thounaojam Awang Leikai in Kakching district as heavy rain accompanied by strong thunderstorm hit the state on Sunday afternoon.
The pig farm belongs to one Thounaojam Somananda (46) son of late Th Ibotomba of Thounaojam Awang Leikai.
According to Somananda, the lightning struck his farm around 1.45 pm.
Shortly after hearing the sound of the lightning, he was informed that his pig farm was burning.
As the rain subsided.
he went to his farm and found three pigs dead and six others burned but barely alive.
He had 12 pigs in his farm.
He told The People's Chronicle over the phone that he started his farm after completing education as a means of livelihood.
In September last year, when Swine Fever hit the state, he lost 88 pigs.
This is the second time tragedy struck his farm and he has nobody to blame for.
Narrating his plight, he expressed his desperation for some assistance from the authority concern.
In Ukhrul district, heavy windstorms blew roof of an academic building of the Chingjaroi Khullen PrimarySchool under Jessami sub-division in Ukhrul district around 2 pm Sunday.
SMDS convenor Thotmathing Raskan said that heavy windstorms have blown off part of the rooftop structure of the teaching staff room and damaged other parts of the building.
However, there were no reports of casualties, he added.
The Chingjaroi Khullen Primary School is under the Autonomous District Council, Ukhrul.
