Imphal, September 30 2023:
Stating that people's representatives should fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people rather than seeking individual fame and welfare, United Committee Manipur (UCM) has advised all unfit MLAs of the state to resign.
Langban Heitha-Leithaba, the Meetei ritual of paying tribute to those who have laid down their lives for the Sake of the motherland, was organised by UCM at the Great June Uprising memorial Complex in Kekrupat, on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion UCM president Joy Konthoujam contended that the present legislators seem to have forgotten the fact that they are the representatives of the people and their duty is to live up to the expectation and aspirations of the people.
If they are unable to meet the people's expectation, they can be called as unfit representative and should resign for good.
Since the MLAs are unable to bring an end to the prevailing crisis which has been lingering on for the last 4 months, they are fit for nothing and should resign, he reason.
Joychandra further informed that the state government take a firm decision to bring an end to the attacks carried out by the Chin-Kuni narco-terrorists and showcase that it is for the people.
He maintained that since its inception UCM has been striving for the territorial integrity of Manipur and had in the past taught lessons to those scheming to disintegrate Manipur.
It is very unfortunate that state and central forces committed excesses against students who were demanding justice for the two students killed by armed Kuki militants.
The brutal act of the security forces is condemned in the strongest terms.
The security forces should follow certain protocols while dealing with students and trying to control mob, he added.
The UCM president also pointed out the need to expedite border fencing works by conducting demarcation of the borders.
He also expressed scepticism over the government in bringing out the culprits involved in the killing of two students within 48 hours as the area where the students were killed is in Kuki dominated Churachandpur district and it is a place where the state government has no say.
However, he hoped that the bodies are retrieved and culprits brought to justice.
