Imphal, September 30 2023:
The guns looted from the police armouries should never be used against the people, said Thangmeiband AC MLA Khumukcham Joykisan today.
He made this statement on the 127 birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, observed at Tombisana High School relief camp.
The observance was organised by Socialist Students' Union Manipur (SSUM) and Thangmeiband Kendra Development organisation (TAKDO) .
Speaking at the observance, Joykisan said the crisis Manipur is facing at present is serious and as such all individuals must refrain from taking advantage of the situation to gain personal political mileage.
The conflict has taken the lives of many people and displaced thousands of people on both sides.
However, amid the chaos, Kuki narco-terrorists have mercilessly kidnapped and murdered two young innocent students.
This is very sad and is condemned in the strongest terms, he said.
On the other hand, the State police and Central security forces have cracked down on student protesters brutally injuring many students but the Manipur DGP has not taken any action against officers and personnel involved in the brutal crackdown on the students.
He should resign from his post, said Joykisan.
He also blamed the DGP for his failure to timely organise search immediately after the two students, Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit went missing on July 6.The DGP's failure to launch an immediate and swift operation at Joujangtek to trace the missing students is very saddening.
The DGP should resign, he added.
People at the observance paid floral tributes to the photo of Hijam Irabot.
MLA Joykisan presented gifts to the inmates on the occasion.
SSUM president S Yaima Meitei, social activist Sapam Kangleipal Meitei attended the event.
