Imphal, September 30 2023:
Representatives of Youth of Manipur (YOM) held talks with MLAs of both the ruling and opposition MLAs in New Delhi on Saturday to bring a solution to the present unrest in Manipur but the four-hour long meeting ended without any consensus.
Altogether 38 ruling MLAs, Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba and five Opposition MLAs took part the meeting which started from 4.10pm at Manipur Bhavan complex, SP Marg.
Despite the repeated requests of YOM, chief minister N Biren did not attend the meeting.
Kshetrigao MLA Noorul Hassan also did not take part the meeting which ended at 8 pm.
When enquired about details of the meeting, a representative of YOM informed The People's Chronicle that Saturday's meeting was the third with the MLAs but it ended without any significant development primarily due to absence of chief minister N Biren Singh.
Being the last meeting, YOM will decide its further course of action in consultation with volunteers in Manipur.
Till date, YOM has been launching democratic and non-violent agitations to bring an end to the ongoing unrest, the YOM representative informed adding that the next course of action may be violent or non-violent which will be decided when YOM volunteers in Delhi return and take unanimous decision with volunteers.
According to the representative, MLAs came to Delhi to meet Central leaders to bring a solution to the crisis but they are unable to meet the PM still.
The MLAs did seek appointment with the PM but the PMO reportedly told them to meet Union home minister Amit Shah and settle the issue accordingly.
During the meeting on Saturday, ruling MLAs said that they could not take decision without the chief minister and unable to take their own decision too, the YOM representative informed and observed that disunity among the MLAs is the main reason behind the issue protracting.
It is learnt that cabinet ministers sought two days time to reply to YOM's suggestion of forming a regional party as BJP does not think for Manipur.
The ministers even assured to convey their decision after holding cabinet meet but YOM representatives rejected and left the meeting venue.
Meanwhile, five Congress MLAs including CLP leader O Ibobi Singh attended the meet ing and gave firm assurance to support the government in any action taken up to resolve the crisis.
