Imphal, September 30 2023:
Stressing the need to remain united and ready to face the Kuki narco-terrorists, six student bodies appealed to the people to participate in peaceful mass sit-in protest across the state on Sunday.
Addressing media persons at the Kwakeithel office of AIMS here on Saturday, co-ordinator of the 6 student bodies Leishangthem Lamyanba reminded all concerned unity is must to defeat divisive elements and uphold the territorial integrity of Manipur.
While observing that the ongoing people's movement needs proper guidance to achieve the goal, Lamyanba said all need to respect one another.
The state police should also understand the fact that we are all indigenes and of the same blood who are fighting against the Kuki narco-terrorists and trying to save Manipur from getting disintegrated.
We need to save Manipur for our future generation and ensure that they (future generations) do not suffer the same problem the present generation is passing through.
We need to work out specific strategy to make this happen, he said.
The coordinator further stressed the need to carry on agitations in a peaceful manner by organising mass peaceful sit-in protest along with street corner meetings where the strategies are chalked out and understand the likelihood that would happen in near future.
He also appealed to the public to light candles in every household in memory of the two students killed by armed Kuki militants.
Lamyanba urged the people raise slogans for unity of the indigenous communities, discard parochialism and enmity among the indigenes, demand justice for Linthoingambi and Hemanjit, flush out Kuki narco-terrorists, implement NRC in Manipur, condemn excesses committed by security forces, exemplary punishment of Kuki terrorists who murdered the two students in captivity, detect and deport illegal immigrants, condemn government of India's divisive policy, government should act and work with due understanding of public sentiment, etc., during the sit-in demonstrations.
He also appealed to all students and public to extend cooperation to all movements launched by the six student bodies.
Meanwhile, birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot was observed at the AIMS office wherein floral tributes were paid to photo of Hijam Irabot and to village volunteers who sacrificed their lives for safeguarding the Meitei villages.
