'Friday Chuhing' fund drive helps cancer patient

Longjam Lokendro, who launched "Friday Chuhing", a fund drive initiative under Cancer Warrior Support, in memory of his wife Longjam ongbi Oinam Ashalata, who passed away due to cancer, extended the first assistance of Rs 10,000 to a cancer patient, named, Mutum Tilotama of Kongpal Kshetri Leikai, in a solemn function held at the Dr Kamal Hall of Department of Psychiatry, RIMS on Friday.
The assistance was provided as part of the 51st birth anniversary observance of Ashalata, which was jointly organised by Medical Media Group of Share and Care, Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal; Inahawem, Moidangpok and Laishram Nabakishwor Trust, Sagolband Khamnam Leirak.
Share and Care founder Prof RK Lenin Singh, Father of Handicapped Padmashri L Nabakiswor, and Share and Care life member Adhikarimayum Geetchandra Sharman attended the solemn event as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr RK Lenin explained that cancer treatment not only takes a long time but also incurs huge medical expenses, causing immense distress on the family of cancer patients.
He then said that cancer patients are warriors in their own right.
As such, the act of helping to ease their suffering through a simple initiative like selling sugarcane juice is laudable.
Thus, he urged for cultivating this mindset of cooperation and joint development.
As part of the programme, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to all those who have sacrificed their lives while defending the integrity of the state.
