Ministry funded ice plant inaugurated

Yet another Ice plant constructed under the funding of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) scheme of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has been inaugurated at Shamushang Shantipur in Imphal West district on Monday after one such Ice plant was inaugurated few days back at Lamlai in Imphal East district.
Mayang Imphal MLA and MANIDCO chairman Kongkham Robindro inaugurated the Ice plant constructed by PMMSY beneficiary Khumanthem Rakesh.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration function, MLA Robindro lauded hard work and efforts of entrepreneur Rakesh to enhance value of local fishes and provide jobs to local people.
He appealed to people of the state to stop consuming cheap and stale fishes imported from outside which are un healthy but rather consume fresh local fishes which are little bit costlier but beneficial for health.
He also said that consumption of local fishes will enhance economy of the state apart from helping local fishermen.
Director (fisheries) H Balkrishna, who, also attended the function, said the department of fisheries of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying launched PMMSY scheme and five beneficiaries of the state were selected under the scheme for construction of Ice plants at different places as part of the policy initiated by state fisheries department to enhance value of locally available fishes.
One Ice plant constructed at Lamlai in Imphal East district was inaugurated some days back and two Ice plants constructed in Bishnupur district and one lee plant in Thoubal district will be inaugurated soon.
He said that emergence of more Ice plants will help fishermen in preserving fish and prevent spoiling local fish products.
He also said that state's fisheries department has started providing mobile insulated vehicles to progressive farmers so that fishes could he transported on vehicle from one place to another without spoiling.
