Bishnupur, October 30 2023:
Bishnupur DC Lourembam Bikram inaugurated a Buy Back Policy Training Programme exclusively for women at Swadhar Home, Shakti Sadhan, Maibam Chingmang in Bishnupur district on Monday.
The training programme is being organised by Bishnupur district administration in collaboration with Women s Income Generation Centre (W1GC), Thoubal Wangmataba to provide three months of phase-wise tailoring training to 20 female beneficiaries staying in relief camps in Bishnupur district.
Speaking as chief guest of the inaugural function, DC Bikram pointed out that the district has 49 relief camps and one prefabricated housing complex, accommodating over 8500 internally displaced people (IDPs) .
While the government provides basic necessities to these IDPs, creating livelihood opportunities is equally vital.
Therefore, he said, he is pleased to kickstart the Buy-Back Policy Training Programme exclusively for women as soon as it was proposed.
In addition to this programme, Bikram highlighted that various other skill development training activities are also being organised at the relief camps.
What sets this programme apart, he explained, is the inclusion of a buy-back policy for products made by the trainees thereby ensuring that trainees have a platform to market their products, promoting self-sufficiency.
He further mentioned that when a three-member committee appointed by the Supreme Court visited the relief camps in the district, their primary concern was the well-being of women and children residents.
The committee advised prioritising pregnant women, lactating mothers, and nutrition of the children.
In response, the district administration has been providing yarn and knitting needles to the camp residents.
Bikram expressed belief that engaging the camp residents in productive activities like this will help alleviate their stress to some extent.
The inaugural function was also attended by WIGC founder secretary Oinam Indira Devi, officials from the district administration, and trainees, among others.
