Breast Cancer Awareness Month observed

As observed across the globe, Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2023 was celebrated today at Khwairamband Nupi Keithel, Imphal on the theme, "No One Should Face Breast Cancer Alone" .
The observance was organised by State NCD Division, National Health Mission, Manipur and District NCD Cell, District Health Mission Society, Imphal West in collaboration with Karkinos Manipur Cancer Institute & Research Centre, Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Shinpham Amadi Shaktam Kanba Lup and Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Semgat Shagatpa Lup.

It was attended by Th Kirankumar, Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West; Dr N Hemantakumar, Additional Director (Planning), Directorate of Health Services, Manipur; Prof GS Moirangthem, Director & CEO, Karkinos Manipur Cancer Institute & Research Centre; Dr Y Premchandra Singh, Joint Director (Planning), Directorate of Health Services & SNO NCD, Manipur; Ksh Santi Devi, president Khwairamband Nupi Keithel; RK Radhesana, president Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Semgat Shagatpa Lup and Dr L Joykumar Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Imphal West as presidium members.
Dr S Opendro Singh, Onco Surgeon, Karkinos Healthcare Manipur and Dr A Ambika, Senior Resident, Department of Radio-oncology, JNIMS also took part in the event.
The observation began with a breast cancer screening programme followed by a session on "Importance of Breast Cancer Awareness and Risk Assessment for Early Detection of Cancer" .
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Y Premchandra Singh highlighted that breast cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide and in the state.
He also stressed on the importance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
Dr A Ambika talked about the risk factors of breast cancer, screening methods such as clinical breast examination, mammography and self breast examination, warning signs of breast cancer and prevention of breast cancer.
During the cancer screening programme, a total of 206 females were examined while breast examination was done for 50 individuals and 9 suspects of breast cancer were identified.
Blood pressure & blood sugar measurements were also done and medicines were distributed.
ABHA ID was also generated for 80 individuals.
