Imphal, October 30 2023:
Manipur Hawkers' Association (MHA) has condoled the untimely demise of its member Sanasam Rajen, son of S Ibotombi of Mongsangei Maning Leikai.
In a statement, MHA informed that Rajen met with an accident while distributing newspapers in the morning of August 31.After fighting for his life for nearly two months, he breathed his last on October 27, the statement said, while sharing the grief and pain of his bereaved family.
It also prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
The statement appealed to its members to follow traffic rules and take extra caution while carrying out their services.
It also appealed to the public to look out for newspaper distributors in the early morning and maintain safe speed to avoid any mishaps.
While pointing out that number of newspaper distributors, who either died or got maimed due to road accidents while carrying out their services is on the rise, the Association said it has been making efforts to provide some financial assistance to such hawkers or their bereaved families.
Since the assistance from the association is not enough to support the bereaved families, the association, in the past, urged the CM for an insurance scheme for hawkers, it recalled.
Appreciating the positive response of the CM, the association drew attention of the chief minister for translating his assurance into action.
